A few of my favorite things Part 2- Mom's salon

I love doing hair. It's been a while since I have actually curled and pinned my own hair in an extravagant up do. But, I still manage to pin it up for church and keep it out of the way through out the week.

Here are some of the tools I have used for years.

Suave Professionals sells amazing quality shampoo for the lowest prices I have seen, yet! You can truly compare it to the top selling salon brands out there. I use their volumizing shampoo, I have heavy, straight hair, and it truly works for me. It cuts the time I would spend back combing down tremendously.

Garnier anti-frizz serum I use this while my hair is still damp. I've permed and straighten my hair in the past, and since I don't cut my hair the damage remains. this little elixir of awesomeness works wonders for my frizzy unruly hair. It also works great when I am doing a barrel rolls or bun up-do.

I often let my hair air dry but when I don't have that kind of time I use a few drops of my CHI silk serum, a little goes a long way. Along with my Garnier anti frizz serum and proceed to dry my locks. I also use the CHI serum with my CHI 1 inch flat iron when there is a need to straighten or curl my hair.

Yes, I use a straightener to curl my hair. I don't own curlers or a curling iron. I find that using the flat iron eliminates frizz and my curls hold forever.

Lets talk hairspray. I use 3 different types. They range from $12-$20, now this may be expensive for some but I don't have to use a lot so it lasts me at least 3 months.

For a wet look I use Paul Mitchell Freeze and shine spray. When I say wet I mean a tousled look. I find that this spray also works for  when I curl my hair, brush it out and keep it down.

For a crisper and lighter look I use Sebastian Re-Shaper Hair spray. I typically use this as I begin an up do or as an every day spray to aid with the fly-aways.

Lastly, I use L'Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray, extra strong hold. Beware, this is a strong smelling spray. When I use it I keep the windows open. the great thing about it is that you can literally brush it away, it doesn't look like you can because it's hold is so strong, but flexible. Also, because it works so well, you don't really need a lot. I use this on Sunday's for church. It keeps my hair in place and saves me the time I would spend on trying to recreate the
same look for night service.

Bobby pins. You have your long, heavy, painful metal bobby pins and then you have your plastic pins. I use the plastic ones as much as possible. Like before mentioned, I have heavy hair. It's long and thick and using metal pins is extremely uncomfortable. I've switched to the plastic version and have found they hold better without the discomfort. I also use non metal elastic bands to minimize breakage.

If you were expecting something more out of this post, I'm sorry to disappoint. I'm pretty basic when it comes to my hair.

I have to admit all this talk about up-do's and hairspray makes me want to go do my hair. Perhaps I should put together a how-to video ?
